How it started! Alexandra becoming an Opera Singer

Updated: Mar 4

This is a short story about my personal story of becoming an opera singer in a world filled with pop singers. Everything is written by me (Alexandra) and this is mostly my point of view of my classical journey and how I got here!

This video is actually one of my first performances ever. I was around nine years old, and it was my first time performing as a soloist in front of an audience at the Royal College of Music in London.

But let’s rewind a little. I started playing the piano when I was three, but honestly, it wasn’t really my thing. I enjoyed it, but I never felt like it was something I wanted to pursue as a career. Thankfully, my parents—who are still the best—helped me find my true passion. They sent me to ballet, drama, musical theatre, karting, horse riding, tennis, and so on, but nothing really stuck.

Then, one summer when I was eight, my mother found me a classical vocal teacher. From the moment I had my first lesson, I was obsessed. Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of days when I didn’t feel like practicing and just wanted to play with my friends, but looking back, all the effort was worth it.

I started taking regular lessons, and the video above was recorded just six months later—my first concert as a soloist. I still remember the feeling of standing on that stage, looking out at all the people. At first, it was terrifying, but as soon as I started singing, an overwhelming sense of euphoria filled my body, and I knew this was what I wanted to do.

From then on, I kept practicing and studying, which meant I barely had a social life, but honestly, it was all worth it. I used to be so embarrassed about my voice, even though I loved singing, because I guess it wasn’t exactly "trendy." But now, I’m so glad I stuck with the classical world—it’s the only way I feel I can truly express myself.

After many years of practicing, performing in concerts, and competing (I’ll make a separate blog post about all of that), I joined the Junior Royal Academy of Music at 15. I studied there for three years before attending King’s College London, where I completed my Bachelor's in Music.

Now, I’m doing my master’s in Switzerland in Business, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (I know, a big turnaround!). But I’m not abandoning my singing—I just also want to open my own beach club one day. I felt that studying business and hospitality would give me the skills I need to make that dream a reality.

These days, I sing at private events while also working on a few business ventures on the side. I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I welcome you to join me on this journey!
